Mission and Vision

East Kent Nostalgic Bus & Coach Trust is a charitable organisation in Kent dedicated to maintaining the values and traditions of bus preservation. The Trust is supported financially by the Trustee’s personal investment, donations, funding and sponsorship.

 

The primary objectives of the Trust are to:

 

  • retain the historical significance of the East Kent Road Car Company into an accomplished and accredited museum;

  • create a working museum preserving and presenting the social and engineering heritage of East Kent buses, coaches and artefacts for inspiration; learning, research and for the enjoyment of the public now and future generations;

  • remain strategically driven, mission focused and managed in full accordance with regulatory requirements and best practice for registered charities;

  • build and maintain a diversified sustainable funding base that enables the Trust to achieve long-term financial viability and deliver on its strategic aims and objectives, whilst maintaining value for money;

  • maintain the Trusts financial and legal affairs by complying with the Companies Act 2006 and Charities Act 2011, and to provide the Trustees with accurate financial information and budgetary support; and

  • present the Trust in the optimum light to stakeholders to maintain a strong, clear and attractive brand image, and to obtain favourable publicity for our exhibitions and programmes.

The Trust has a long-term mission and responsibility to protect East Kent bus and coach heritage and culture for future generations as well as current audiences. Excellence is thriving and celebrated in the arts, museums and libraries, with particular reference to use of collections. The Trust will lead on the creative use of its collection focusing on living interpretation to enrich the visitor experience for all audiences. The Trust will invest and focus on: developing exhibitions and interpretation through the creative use of collections; improving resilience through greater fundraising capacity and development of commercial activities including opening an online retail outlet; developing audience activities to ensure people of all ages and background are able to experience this transport heritage; developing workforce including training and personal development opportunities for staff and volunteers; and support for the Museum sector through networking and skill sharing.
